Judy Miller
Judy Miller began working at Kendal in September 1993, before residents began moving in. As a member of the finance team then, she and her colleagues shared Cottage 1 with the human resources department.
She started her career as the accounts receivable coordinator, with information technology responsibilities added shortly thereafter. She has continued to advance through the years, and is now director of accounting and information technology, working closely with all members of the finance/IT department.
Judy and Curt, her husband of nearly 30 years, have two children and are grandparents to Alexis, who attended the Kendal Early Learning Center and will turn six this August. Her daughter Stephanie was among the first daughters to attend “Bring Your Daughters to Work Day,” now “Bring Your Child to Work Day.” Stephanie was also one of the original staff members of Kendal at Home, hired as the program’s first administrative assistant. Judy’s son Zachary also completed an internship in health care administration for college both at Kendal at Oberlin and the Elyria Wesleyan Village.
Looking back, Judy says it’s been a pleasure to be here from the ground floor up, to see how Kendal has grown. “I remember when we worked sitting at eight-foot tables because our desks had not arrived,” she says. “The evidence of teamwork was everywhere.”
Kendal’s IT staff members are currently worked with the Master Planning Committee on campus-wide Wi-Fi, and building the network capacity and additional bandwidth that the new environment will bring to our community. They are also working with Kendal at Home staff members to identify new technology that can help that program’s participants to ensure safety in their homes and to maintain their independence.
Judy appreciates and values the mission and vision of Kendal at Oberlin and the leadership that has propelled the community forward over the past 20 years. Kendal truly values its staff members and provides many opportunities for personal and well as professional growth. This year Judy was one of twelve individuals selected to participate in the first class of the LeadingAge Ohio Leadership Academy.
She and Curt enjoy riding their Harley Davidsons, golf, traveling, and their two golden retrievers, Molly and Bella. They’ve been to Sturgis, South Dakota, a few times for its annual motorcycle rally, traveling with other couples. The husbands trailer the motorcycles, and the wives fly and meet them there. That is why they are all still happily married, Judy quips.
